For reflection 5 I read 1 article and watched 2 videos. The videos I watched were “Ice Bucket Challenge founder shares story” by MSNBC and “Versus Virtual Fitness Trainer- Exergame Fitness” by Exergame Fitness. The article I read was “Artistic Collaboration Sires Rochambeu’s ‘Born Digital’ Connected Jacket” by Muchaneta Kapfunde. These all show how technology is advancing and what ways we can use these advancements to better peoples overall health. Below is my video on Youtube of me talking further about the articles. Enjoy!
The first video I watched “Ice Bucket Challenge founder shares story”. The founder of this challenge is Pat Quinn. He founded it once he was diagnosed with ALS and realized just how little people knew/talked about it. ALS is “a disease affecting motor neurons of the spinal cord, which causes progressive weakness and atrophy of muscles”. He knew that by starting an online challenge the word about ALS would be spread across all social media sites and to people of all ages. The ice bucket challenge is when you get nominated by someone who has done it prior to you, you have someone else pour a bucket of ice water on you, and then you nominated 3 other people. I remember when this was a popular challenge, doing it made you “cool” and everyone wanted to be nominated for it. The goal was to spread awareness as well as receive donations so that more research can be done on ALS and hopefully find a cure if not find a way for people who have it to live more comfortably. The second video I watched was “Versus Virtual Fitness Trainer- Exergame Fitness” by Exergame Fitness. This video showed the new technology of a gym and personal fitness coach all in one machine. The machine has a scree, where you watch your trainer do the exercises and copy their moves, as well as see your reps. This exercise machine has many amazing functions to it! It can count your reps, adjust your technique (lowering chance of injury), child and older adults friendly, and keeps track of your previous exercises, improvement (through a smartphone app) and what pound dumbbell you are using to show improvement! This will save people money because instead of paying a personal trainer weekly/monthly, you make one payment for this machine! Below is an image of the machine, showing the screen and the workout devices given. Link to article: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YC22JEuHNs4

The third article I read was “Artistic Collaboration Sires Rochambeu’s ‘Born Digital’ Connected Jacket”. This article was about how wearable technology is becoming more than just watches, it is becoming actual clothes! People are now trying to work on a jacket that connects to your smartphone and works practically the same. It will show you places e at, shop, pubs, etc. As well as the aspects of social media. Since this is such new technology, it is not available to everyone for purchase yet. Workers are trying to perfect the jacket and make it as close to a smartphone as they can and add as many features that will work on the jacket. Soon, not only will we have watches to replace our phones, it will also be in the form of the clothing we are wearing! Below is an image of what the jacket is going to feature!
